Production Opportunities

UVAA invites applications for the following paid, fellowship and work study opportunities for the July 2023 season:

JOB OPPORTUNITIES

Vocal Coach:

Reports to: Dr. Isaac Hurtado (General Director) and Maestro Nicolas Giusti (Artistic Director) 

General Purpose: UVAA Vocal Coaches supply students with applicable knowledge having to do with but not limited to diction, performance practice, proper classical vocal technique, and musical style. Coaches must have adequate accompaniment skills, be fluent with the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), and should have advanced knowledge in the pronunciation and grammatical structure of Italian, French, German, and English.

Rehearsal Accompanist:

Reports to: Maestro Nicolas Giusti, Artistic Director

General Purpose: UVAA provides young opera singers professional training for future careers on the stage. The program Rehearsal Accompanist’s primary responsibility is to provide stable, supportive piano accompaniment for the singers as they stage and rehearse. The Rehearsal Accompanist must be technically proficient and able to play opera reductions at performance tempi. Accompanists must also be prepared to support singers in community concerts and masterclasses if needed. 

Performance Accompanist:

Reports to: Maestro Nicolas Giusti, Artistic Director

General Purpose: The Performance Accompanist will provide singers supportive piano accompaniment for the Death by Aria competition, masterclasses, operas, and scene performances. The Performance Accompanist must be technically proficient and able to sight-read opera reductions at advanced skill level. 

 

WORK STUDY OPPORTUNITIES

Assistant Stage Directors:

Reports to: Dr. Isaac Hurtado, General Director

Salary: partial tuition

General Purpose: UVAA provides young singers opportunities to advance their singing, musical and professional skills. By providing work study, UVAA can provide qualified students full scholarships and give other resume building experiences. Assistant Stage Directors must have applicable soft skills. Students must be able to clearly record production staging, and offer the Director assistance when needed. This student will fully participate in UVAA’s vocal program while also receiving training and shadowing opportunities with the directing staff. 

 

 

Assistant Stage Managers:

Reports to: Dr. Isaac Hurtado, General Director

Salary: partial-tuition

General Purpose: UVAA provides young singers opportunities to advance their singing, musical and professional skills. By providing work study, UVAA can provide qualified students full scholarships and give other resume building experiences. Assistant Stage Managers(ASMs) must have communication, and organizational skills as well as a very good working knowledge of the season’s operas. Students must be able to work with Assistant Stage Directors to report staging to the production team, and will offer any additional support to the Stage Manager (SM). ASMs also are responsible for helping SMs clean and set rehearsal props as well as provide any necessary stage cues to singers. This student will fully participate in UVAA’s vocal program while also receiving training and shadowing opportunities with the production team.
